Obviously, Sony has trained any members of these various teams in the arts of careful PR dodging, but there’s still the likelihood of a slip up. That’s why when Quantic Dream’s David Cage — the man behind the forthcoming Beyond: Two Souls — showed up at D.I.C.E. he was grilled about the PS4.

For as hard as IGN tried, they were unable to get anything too revelatory out of Cage, who chose to tout the still-viral PS3 rather than talk PS4. And even when asked about the PS4 not playing used games, Cage was very diplomatic in his response:

He didn’t say much to reveal if such a feature was headed to the PS4, but discussed both the pros and cons for consumers and publishers. He is a developer after all, so any new game purchases are likely to be his preferred source of income.

Cage’s upcoming game, Beyond: Two Souls, has been quite a mystery since a big reveal at Sony’s E3 2012 Press Conference, and a brief showing at Comic-Con. But some new information might be on the horizon.

When asked about a Beyond: Two Souls release date, Cage revealed that the game is almost in beta and will come out this year. In fact, he revealed a release date will be announced soon.

Deciding to say “soon” leads us to believe that Cage might be making an appearance at the Sony ‘See the Future’ event that takes place on February 20th. That is believed to be ground zero for PS4, and by extension next-gen, talk, so what better place for Cage to hype up his publisher’s new system.

Moreover, we wouldn’t be surprised if Cage revealed that Beyond was targeting both PS3 and PS4 for release. The game does look phenomenal — especially the motion capture work done on Ellen Paige (who plays Jodie Holmes). We’ll hopefully learn more in less than two weeks.

When do you think Beyond will hit store shelves? Will David Cage announce a release date at the ‘See the Future’ event? Might the game be a PS4 release?

Beyond: Two Souls will release some time in 2013 for the PS3.
