Taking over the captaincy in 2010, Sammy has twice led the team to series wins over New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. The fact that the Caribbean side, ranked No. 8, has struggled to even compete against the top ranked teams – losing 5 of their last 6 matches – could have been the reason why the Board has arrived at such a decision.
Ramdin has been the first choice wicket-keeper for the Caribbean side for 8 years now in the longer format. Although he has been in and out of the limited overs team, he is a permanent fixture in Tests. His time at the helm with the domestic side Trinidad and Tobago will serve him well in his new role. Ramdin has scored 2235 runs in 56 matches at an average of 27.25.
