For those unfamiliar, Darkest Dungeon sees a series of unlucky, glory seeking heroes roll up to a haunted hamlet to try and destroy the terrible evil lurking there. The game is a slow wade through powerful enemies and a stress meter that constantly threatens to unravel the player’s fighters even as they continue to miss enemies despite having a better than average chance to hit. It’s a mix of frustrating and exhilarating when things finally go right that has a similar appeal to Dark Souls.

One aspect that Darkest Dungeon and Dark Souls do not share is PVP, but that is apparently changing. Despite being announced on April 1, it seems the upcoming Darkest Dungeon DLC The Butcher’s Circus will really bring PVP to the game. This will be accessed through a new Hamlet location, not one of the upgrades introduced by The Crimson Court DLC, meaning that DLC is not necessary for the new one to be accessed.
The new PVP will likely have its own meta defined fairly quickly, and its survival rules will differ from PVE in several ways. Fortunately, PVP will not have permadeath.
Darkest Dungeon is out now for iOS, PC, PS4, PS Vita, Switch, and Xbox One.
