It’s not uncommon for video games to receive comic book adaptations, considering how dense the lore of a lot of games can oftentimes be. Fan-favorite titles like The Witcher, The Last of Us, and Borderlands have all received comic book spin-offs that further flesh out the world and characters of each game. Now, it seems Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting the same treatment in the form of Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout.

The newest Cyberpunk 2077 from Dark Horse Comics follows an original character named Arturo living within the streets of Night City. Arturo works for Diverse Media Systems as a braindance repair specialist that goes around to various different clients and fixes each individual braindance. Game Rant is pleased to exclusively debut a few pages of Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout, which set the stage for who Arturo is and his place in Night City.

Braindances in Cyberpunk 2077 serve as a small part of the game’s lore, with only a few playable braindance segments seen throughout Cyberpunk 2077. Usually, players would seek out Judy Alvarez whenever braindances were concerned, but because Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout will focus specifically on a braindance repair specialist, the story will allow for more complex commentary on the nature of braindances.

Based on Arturo’s inner monologues alone, readers can see first-hand just how addictive braindances are and how much they have negatively impacted the denizens of Night City. No matter the background or wealth of any individual user, practically everyone in Night City is hopelessly reliant on braindances as a way to momentarily forget how unhappy they are with their lives. This comic will hopefully allow greater depth to be added to braindances, considering how much additional content Cyberpunk 2077 had to juggle outside of braindances.

In any case, it will be interesting to see where the story of Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout goes from here. This actually isn’t the first Cyberpunk 2077 comic released by Dark Horse, with Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout being the third comic book adaptation the studio will have officially released. Thus, if fans of Cyberpunk 2077 enjoyed the first two comics, then they will likely enjoy Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout.

Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout Issue #1 releases June 1, 2022.
